Join us for a Opening night Q&A with director Radim Špaček accompanied by a screening of his film THE GOLDEN STING (Zlatý podraz) at the 8th annual Czech Film Tour. 
 
Radim Špaček was born in 1973 in Ostrava. When he was five he moved with his parents to Prague and started to play minor parts in radio plays and TV dramas. As a high school he chose Prague conservatory, acting department. Czech director Karel Kachyna offered him main part in his feature film "Little Girls and Crazy Guys" (_Blazni a devcatka (1989)_, smaller parts in "Vojtech, Called the Orphan" (Vojtech, receny sirotek (1990) and TV film Jan (1992). After school-leaving exam in 1991 he worked as an assistant of director at few foreign movies shot in Prague (Swing Kids, Il Giovanni Mussolini, Catherine Courage), when one year later he was accepted to study directing on Prague Film Academy (FAMU). After he finished his first year he went to Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina under siege (1993). In production of Cestmir Kopecky (Czech Television) he shot his first film there - a semi-documentary story called "Young Men Discovering the World" (Mladí muzi poznávají svet (1996)) about war life of young people living there. Film was chosen for the Karlovy Vary IFF competition and got a Film Clubs International Association Award and an Ecumenical Jury Award as well as a special mention on Alpe Adria Festival in Trieste (1996). He continued his studies and for two years worked as a speaker and director of alternative music programme in Czech TV called 60 (1996). He finished his studies with his second film "Rapid Eye Movement" (Rychlé pohyby ocí (1998)). Immediately after that he has got a German foundation's DAAD scholarship for 6 months in Berlin, where he wrote a screenplay "Good Intention" (Dobre umysly). He also prepares two documentaries - "War Odyssey" (Valecna odysea), view on contemporary wars all over the world and "Sleepless Nights" (Bezesne noci), following Czech TV crisis in winter 2000/1.

There will be a Q&A as part of the Opening Night of the ISREEL Film Festival followed by screenings of the Academy Award-winning short SKIN and feature film MAGIC MEN. 
 

guyskinGuy Nattiv is an acclaimed filmmaker from Israel. His short film, SKIN won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Short Film. Nattiv's work has also won prizes at more than 20 Film Festivals worldwide.Before coming to the US, Nattiv directed several features in Israel. Nattiv currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife/producing partner Jaime Ray Newman, and their daughter.

Joe Penna is a Brazilian writer and director.

For the past 12 years, he has maintained a YouTube channel dedicated to inventive music videos and short films. The channel has garnered nearly 3 million subscribers and over 400 million views. His stop-motion short film Guitar: Impossible was selected to be displayed at the Guggenheim museum.

Penna has directed commercials for various Fortune 500 companies including Coca Cola, Disney, and Ford. He was selected as one of the top 10 new directors at the 20th Cannes Lions Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors' Showcase.

His inaugural short film, MERIDIAN, stars Orlando Jones. His follow-up, INSTANT GETAWAY, was produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. Penna's third short film, TURNING POINT, was selected to play at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival.

Penna's debut feature film, ARCTIC, was shot entirely on location in Iceland and stars Mads Mikkelsen. It was part of the Official Selection for the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, and is currently being distributed theatrically by Bleecker Films.

Penna is currently in pre-production for STOWAWAY, starring Anna Kendrick and Toni Collette.

Stephen Groo was born in Artesia, California. He went to Brigham Young University and graduated in 2000 with a BA in Fine Arts. He has been a film director for 20 years and has produced over 205 films in that time.

Filméxico 2018 this year includes two feature films, a documentary, and a shorts program with special guest director Gabriella Bardillo, for the 7th annual celebration of contemporary Mexican film.
 
Filmmaker Gabriela Badillo is concerned with the loss of many of the pre-Mexican languages of Mexico. After her grandfather, a native speaker of a nearly-lost indigenous language, passed away, Badillo embarked on a project to preserve the old stories in their indigenous languages using short animated films. We will see several of these on the opening night of Filmexico.
